Trauma creates doubt and negative thoughts about yourself.
How will I ever have a relationship in which I feel safe?
Is there a way for the constant negative thinking to stop?
I can’t stop thinking about what happened, and it’s driving me crazy!
Can I ever have sex again without checking out or freaking out?
I’m so scared to pass this on to my kids.
Healing from trauma requires feeling safe.
First and foremost, you need a trusting relationship with me. No method is completely effective without trust. And in the aftermath of trauma, nothing feels safe.
Imagine putting on sunglasses that you can’t – or don’t know how to – take off, and the lens colors everything as a “threat.” Even if you know it’s not correct; it’s still what you see and experience.
This can create a cycle of fear, pain, and behaviors that are trying to keep your system safe but end up creating more problems. And this can feel like shame and hopelessness.
It is like having an internal smoke alarm that is set to such a sensitive setting that even steam from your morning coffee sets it off.
Is it possible to find safety where I can begin to heal?
The answer is yes; there is relief from all of that.
These are just some of the questions I hear from people who have experienced trauma.
Healing is possible! I know – because I have lived it and have witnessed hundreds of others heal.
I offer you safety and a trusting relationship, so healing can begin.
First, we will focus on identifying and recognizing the sensation of safety.
That’s something trauma does. It distorts your sense of what and who is safe.
I use a combination of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Internal Family Systems, both of which work with the embodied parts we all carry in us.
I also use body-centered, integrative methods, such as trauma-informed yoga, to alleviate the symptoms of trauma.
You will feel the healing long after the sessions have ended.
